Film news: Famed Fincher set for ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ sequel direction

The famed, iconic David Fincher is set to direct a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, written by Quentin Tarantino, starring Brad Pitt.

‘Twice Upon a Time in Hollywood’? Let's talk about it.

Film News Blitz’s Aidan Leo is here to deliberate on the recent revelation relating to the sequel of the celebrated 2019 released, instant classic.

Hollywood icon Brad Pitt will return to spearhead the feature

It has been reported via multiple notable outlets that Brad Pitt will reprise his role as veteran stunt double, Cliff Booth.

How did news of the feature come to light?

The Playlist was first to detail the information regarding the probable sequel.

Furthermore, it has been suggested that the film came together after the inner workings of Tarantino’s alleged final feature, fell through.

Brad Pitt, who was set to play a version of his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character, was reported to be at the forefront of Tarantino’s final outing.

The feature was titled The Movie Critic.

Written directly for Pitt to be the driving force, the plot was set to follow a film critic who wrote for an adult magazine in the 1970s.

Cliff, in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is said to have been very much a film fanatic, whereby the now discarded feature would most probably have manipulated that trope a little further.

What can we expect from the now Fincher-led feature?

My understanding is that elements from the would-have-been Movie Critic will exist as prevalent dynamics in the not-yet-titled Fincher feature.

Whether that be concepts, themes, shots or scenes.

Although Pitt, who has a strong collaborative history with Fincher, will no doubt be putting his best foot forward, Leonardo Di Caprio however, who portrayed ‘washed’ Western action star, Rick Dalton, will not be returning to the feature’s sequel.

Some outlets have reported a cameo role for Di Caprio, but it is highly unlikely.

Those that know Leo, know he infamously does not do sequels.

Fincher, now heavily aligned with Netflix, having previously overseen the direction of The Killer (2023) and Mank (2020) prior to that, possibly will see the feature associated with Netflix in some capacity.

Production is set to get rolling as soon as the upcoming summer season in the US.

More details surrounding the feature’s specifics, including the film’s title and narrative will be revealed in due course which will no doubt set itself on route to memorable success.

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Again’?

Regardless, we will find out soon enough.

As Matthew McConaughey’s David says in Dazed and Confused, “The older you do get, the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man. L-I-V-I-N.” A quote Aidan prides himself on and one he looks to, to continue following his dreams and passions.
