Film news: Pedro Pascal, Tom Cruise and more praise Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s new film, Sinners, was released to cinemas on April 18 and has quickly been regarded by many as one of the films of the year so far.
Starring the aforementioned Jordan, alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell and Wunmi Mosaku, many celebrities have taken to social media to make their thoughts on the film clear.
Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews has been having a look at the widespread praise for Sinners.
What is ‘Sinners’ about?
First of all, we should probably catch a few of you up if you haven’t seen this masterpiece.
Sinners follows the story of the notorious Smoke/Stack Twins, both played by Jordan, as they move back to their former hometown, looking to set up a new luxury club venue in the 1930s Jim Crow South, at the height of the power of the Ku Klux Klan.
Alongside debutant actor Miles Caton and several other more experienced members of the cast, Smoke and Stack become embroiled in a terrifying and mysterious nightmare, as chaos descends upon them.
Many of the individual performances were praised, but director Coogler has been hailed a visionary, using tactics such as changing the aspect ratio throughout the movie, as well as what many perceive to be the creation of an entirely new horror-thriller genre.
Hollywood praise
Several of the biggest names in Hollywood have come out in support of the film, namely Tom Cruise and Pedro Pascal.
Cruise, who is an outward advocate of the cinema industry, and encourages people to visit their local showrooms, said: “Congratulations Ryan, Michael, and to the entire cast and crew. Must see in a cinema and stay through the end credits!”
Having spoken out on his Instagram, Pascal followed suit, with a very short and clear message.
“Shut the f*** up and go see this movie!”

Another notable comment was from American comedian and actor Tiffany Haddish, who described Sinners as “the best movie I have seen in a long time!”
