The 2026 BAFTA Awards are right around the corner, so here are the hot picks for some of the leading categories.
The biggest night of the year in the British film sphere is nearly here, as the run-up to the Oscars nears its conclusion.
Film News Blitz’s RC Stacey is here to run through the bookies’ favourites for the screenplay categories.
‘I Swear’ for Best Original Screenplay at 6/1 (BET365)
Brit favourite I Swear looks set to bring in a handful of trophies during Sunday’s BAFTAs, and it’s Film News Blitz’s opinion that this heartrending tale of social ostracising has the poignancy and deftness of storytelling to take home the Best Original Screenplay award.
If those odds are looking a little too unlikely for you, Ryan Coogler’s scintillating Sinners screenplay is at 21/20 from BET365.
‘One Battle After Another’ for Best Adapted Screenplay at 1/3 (BET365)
Whilst the nominees for this year’s Best Adapted Screenplay are serious contenders for best film, or the acting categories, it is Film News Blitz’s opinion that One Battle After Another stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Ingenuity, as only Paul Thomas Anderson knows how, the odds may be low, but for good reason.
With seven awards so far for its screenplay alone, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring film looks like a shoo-in.
However, for the pure chaotic energy it brought to the screen at the tail end of 2025, Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia screenplay might warrant a look-in as the outside bet, with BET365 offering 40/1 odds on it taking home the trophy.
Let us know who you think will win in the writing categories this year.
