‘One Battle After Another’ is the big winner at the 2026 BAFTA Awards
One Battle After Another entered proceedings with the most nominations, 14, one ahead of Sinners.
The nominees for the best picture prize included the pair of these films, alongside Hamnet, Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value.
One Battle After Another also won for editing, cinematography, best adapted screenplay and best director as Paul Thomas Anderson’s film was the major winner of the 2026 BAFTA Awards, with actor Sean Penn also winning for his supporting role in this modern masterpiece.
Sinners didn’t go empty-handed, however, winning awards for original screenplay, original score and supporting actress.
What other films won prizes at the 2026 BAFTA Awards?
The first award of the night went to Avatar: Fire and Ash, as James Cameron’s science fiction epic won for Special Visual Effects.
Star of stage and screen, Paddington Bear, became “the first presenter to get marmalade all over a Bafta,” as he presented the award for the best children’s and family film to Boong.
Best documentary went to the undercover Russian-school feature Mr Nobody Against Putin.
Zootropolis 2 was victorious in the best animated film category, while Sentimental Value became the first Norwegian film to win a BAFTA by taking the award for film not in the English language.
As ever, the 2026 BAFTA Awards celebrated the talented craftspeople, artisans and creatives working in the film industry today, with notable prizes being handed out.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein unsurprisingly won awards for production design, makeup and hair and costume design after bringing Mary Shelley’s gothic tale to life for Netflix.
F1: The Movie’s technical wizardry resulted in the prize for best sound.
There was also a spotlight on British filmmaking, specifically, with My Father’s Shadow, for Akinola Davies Jr and Wale Davies, a brotherly effort, winning the award for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer.
10 pieces of art were nominated for outstanding British film, with Hamnet taking the gong, beating the likes of I Swear, Pillion and Steve.
