Film news: Amazon MGM Studios’ new James Bond producer lineup announced

James Bond has been a staple of the film-making scene for decades and updates on the latest installment are sure to excite audiences.

Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed who will be leading the line when it comes to producing the film.

Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews writes of the confirmed duo: Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who are behind some of the highest-grossing film franchises to ever hit the big screen.

Pascal has seen an enormous level of success in recent years, with hits like Challengers, Little Women and Molly’s Game.

Some of her somewhat bigger titles were that of the entire Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, which is suspected to have grossed a combined total of over $3 billion, as well as the blockbuster animations of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse.

If you thought that was impressive, Heyman’s resume is certainly no less magnificent.

His most notable franchise is without doubt the worldwide phenomenon Harry Potter, which sits at fourth in the all-time highest grossing film franchises list, two places behind that of Spider-Man

Heyman was also part of the 2014 Academy Award-winning film Gravity, which took home seven Oscars.

To name but a few of the other titles Heyman has been a part of, there is Marriage Story, I Am Legend, the Paddington series, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and of course, Barbie.

But what does this all mean for James Bond?

Well, one thing we can immediately take from this is that Amazon intends on taking the much beloved British spy film series seriously, and it looks as though they also intend on firmly pushing it forward into the new age of film.

Courtenay Valenti, the Head of Film at Amazon MGM Studios, said: “We are approaching every creative decision with James Bond, which Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have so masterfully steered, with the greatest sense of responsibility.

“Part of an elite group of producers who have developed and managed massive film franchises to box office success and critical acclaim, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are two of the most accomplished, experienced, and respected film producers in our industry.”

She added: “We are honored to be working with them on James Bond’s next chapter and are excited to deliver to global audiences storytelling that upholds the impeccable legacy of this beloved character.”

Some of the bigger titles to come from the MGM studios include Red One, which grossed approximately $180 million, The Beekeeper, which hit around $152 million, and the aforementioned Challengers, which garnered just under $100 million at the box office.

With Pascal and Heyman on board, the new James Bond is building up to be one to get really excited for.

Now they just need to select the actor to take on the role of 007.
