Film news: Happy Gilmore 2 is in Full Swing

Adam Sandler is getting ready to unveil one of his most iconic characters to the world again after a near-30 year absence in Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2 and he’s used the real-life golfing stars of Full Swing to help him.

In a collision of fiction and non-fiction, Netflix has leveraged its golfing properties in a true masterstroke of marketing genius.

Film News Blitz’s David Bason charts the course for Sandler’s hotly anticipated comedy sequel.

Happy Gilmore is back!

If reports are to be believed, Happy Gilmore 2 is slated to premiere on Netflix on July 25, 2025, and Sandler is back with some familiar faces.

Cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald return for the long-awaited Happy Gilmore sequel as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin respectively and the creative team from the 1996 original is back as well.

Happy Gilmore screenwriter Tim Herlihy is back to pen the sequel as is the original director Dennis Dugan, this time in the role of executive producer.

Taking on directing duties for the new film is one of Sandler’s former collaborators, Murder Mystery helmsman Kyle Newacheck.

New stars along for the ride

A host of new stars are involved in an ensemble cast for Happy Gilmore 2, including multi-Super Bowl winning Tight End of the Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce and pop superstar Bad Bunny.

Sandler has also roped in his Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie to star along with Ben Stiller and The Substance’s Margaret Qualley.

But the real stars of Happy Gilmore 2 are the best and brightest golfers on the PGA tour.

Full Swing stars revel in Happy Gilmore 2 appearance

One of several behind-the-scenes sporting documentaries born out of the success of Drive to Survive, Full Swing has entered its third season following the high-stakes world of professional golf in the PGA Tour.

Episode 1 of Season 3 sees Happy Gilmore 2 takeover as several of Full Swing’s golfing stars film their scenes for the comedy sequel.

Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris are all pitching in to help bring Happy Gilmore 2 to life to bring the film further real-life relevance.

The collision of worlds is a great example of Netflix leveraging its properties for mutual benefit.

Sandler fans, perhaps new to the world of golf, are drawn into the world of Full Swing by his Hollywood stardom and on the other end of the stick, golfing die hards will see Sandler is serious about representing the sport well in his film.

Fans will get to see how golfing pros and golfing actors coalesce this summer.
