Film news: Jurassic World Rebirth trailer, it’s time to be scared of dinosaurs again

Universal Pictures has unveiled a chilling first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth.

Audiences have now got their first proper glimpse of what Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali will be running away from in theatres this summer.

Film News Blitz’s David Bason writes why it’s time to be scared of dinosaurs again.

What is Jurassic World Rebirth about?

The seventh instalment in the dino franchise takes the film’s heroes to the island where research was conducted for the original Jurassic Park.

There, the rejected dinosaurs that were too scary reside…

According to the official synopsis, Jurassic World Rebirth shows how the world of the film has advanced since 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.

“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” the synopsis reads.

“Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.

“The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

“Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs.

“When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”

Jurassic World Rebirth trailer serves up a chilling tease

In the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer, unveiled by Universal Pictures on Wednesday, we see Rupert Friend’s Martin Krebs recruit Dr. Henry Loomis [Bailey] to embark on a mission to save humankind.

Loomis won’t be going alone to face up against the fearsome dinosaurs of Jurassic World Rebirth as Johansson’s Bennett is there to ensure they come back alive.

We see the duo team up with Ali’s Duncan Kincaid and the chaos that ensues when all three arrive at their destination with Krebs and a team of mercenaries in tow.

There’s running, screaming and big, bad scary dinosaurs aplenty on offer in this exciting teaser, serving up all the juicy goodness that one can expect from a Jurassic World movie.

“These dinosaurs were too dangerous for the original park,” warns Loomis.

“The worst of the worst were left here.

“We put ourselves in a place we don’t belong.

“Survival is a long shot.”

Those foreboding, fearsome and chilling words tie into Producer Frank Marshall’s conversation with Vanity Fair in which he says “There’s a little bit of everything that’s scary”.

Who is making Jurassic World Rebirth?

Directing Jurassic World Rebirth is Gareth Edwards, whose film credits as a movie helmsman are an incredible quartet of science-fiction features.

Edwards’ indie hit Monsters put him on the map to bring Godzilla to the big screen in 2014 and two years later his Star Wars Story, Rogue One, Film News Blitx’s favourite Disney feature from a galaxy, far, far away delivered over $1 billion at the box office.

His latest offering was 2023’s The Creator, a heartfelt sci-fi epic that was a visual effects marvel for a fraction of the cost of a regular studio offering.

Edwards’ films deliver emotion, spectacle and thrills, so he is just the person to bring Jurassic World back to life.

Audiences can rest assured that Edwards is working from great material since Jurassic World Rebirth brings back screenwriter David Koepp, who adapted Michael Cichton’s Jurassic Park novel for the big screen, changing the world of cinema in the process.

Franchise creator and cinema legend Steven Spielberg serves as an Executive Producer.

When does Jurassic World Rebirth come out in cinemas?

Jurassic World Rebirth will stomp its way into movie theatres on July 2, 2025.

Film News Blitz will be at the front of the queue to get the best seat in front of the big screen for this one.
