The nominations for the 79th British Academy of Film and Television Awards were announced on Monday, with BAFTA handing Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another a chart-topping 14 nods.
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners follows closely behind with 13, setting up an intriguing contest.

‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Sinners’ continue their unyielding form with BAFTA noms
After sweeping up the Academy Award nominations just last week, with Sinners achieving a record-breaking 16 nominations and One Battle After Another in second with 13, the two swapped positions this time around as Paul Thomas Anderson’s flick was favoured by BAFTA.
Both films were nominated in the best film category, with Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler also nominated for their directorial efforts.
‘I Swear’ takes centre stage
The British film I Swear saw its best results of the award season, taking home five nominations, with many saying this has been overdue.
It was nominated for Outstanding British Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Casting, whilst also picking up nominations in leading actor for Robert Aramayo and in supporting actor for Peter Mullan.

The rising stars of the film industry
Every year, the BAFTAs nominate five up-and-coming actors for their unique Rising Star Award.
This year saw Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Miles Caton (Sinners), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Archie Madekwe (Lurker), and Posy Sterling (The Outrun) all nominated for the fan-led green BAFTA trophy.
Out of line with the Oscars
Despite the vast similarities between the categories compared to the Oscars, there were a few surprises in these nominations.
After missing out on Academy Award nominations last week, Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) and Paul Mescal (Hamnet) both secured nominations in their respective categories: leading actress and supporting actor.
Despite the BAFTAs having six slots for their acting categories compared to the Oscars’ five, it was a dark day for international cinema, with few nominations for performances in foreign films.
Maybe the biggest shock was Wagner Moura missing out on leading actor for his film, The Secret Agent, despite securing an Oscar nomination just last week.

The 2026 BAFTA film awards will take place on Sunday, February 22, at around 7 pm, with coverage on BBC One and iPlayer.
