It’s official, ‘The Mummy 4’ is happening, and two of its biggest stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to the deserts along with it.

We already have a new ‘The Mummy film coming out this year, so what will this instalment have to offer?

Film News Blitz’s Oscar Trinick has more on this announcement.

What do we know about the film so far?

The Mummy 4 will star Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who, after months of speculation, are now officially set to return for this legacy sequel.

They will reprise their roles as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell, respectively.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, also known collectively as Radio Silence, are set to direct the film.

They have made films such as Scream 5, Scream 6, Ready or Not, and Abigail.

David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill) will be penning the screenplay.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps (pun intended).

What is ‘The Mummy’ franchise about?

The current franchise has seen three direct instalments so far: The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).

From those films spawned five spinoffs of the Scorpion King character, most notably of which starred Dwayne Johnson in his first lead role.

These films follow archaeologists who unintentionally resurrect cursed figures in 1920s, 1930s and 1940s Egypt.

They are a blend of horror and adventure, all helmed by a bounty of references to Egyptian mythology.

Along with Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026), these films are loose remakes of the 1932 classic of the same name.

When is ‘The Mummy 4’ coming out?

Unfortunately for some, there is still a while to wait as The Mummy 4 will not release in cinemas until May 19, 2028.

On the other hand, if you can’t wait until then, Lee Cronin’s new take on the old classic will be released in cinemas on April 17 of this year.
