James Wan and Bumhouse-Atomic Monster are on the hunt for a director for a Dead by Daylight film.
Announced in 2023, the film serves as a live-action adaptation of the 2016 horror video game of the same name.
Film News Blitz’s RC Stacey brings the stalk and slash news of this “scary cinematic adaptation”.
What is ‘Dead by Daylight’?
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the online-multiplayer game Dead by Daylight features four ‘survivors’ who are stalked by a ruthless killer.
Effectively a highly tense game of ‘hide and seek’, the internationally adored game has seen major brand crossovers with the likes of Resident Evil, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, Alan Wake, with reported Assassin’s Creed and Dead Space crossovers to come soon.
The live action adaptation, featuring a script from long-time Wan collaborator David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Aquaman, The Conjuring 2) and Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D), is currently searching for a director to bring the slasher film to life.
Aja ruled himself out because of scheduling conflicts with Under Paris 2.
“What David and Alexandre bring to Dead by Daylight is a rare balance of character-driven storytelling and relentless genre intensity,” said Jason Blum, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Drawing from survival horror and psychological terror, their work establishes a world where fear is not just experienced, but earned. It is a cinematic blueprint designed to attract a director who can elevate that vision through performance and scale.”
Executive vice-president of Behaviour Interactive, Stephen Mulrooney, when first announcing the news, said, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the ‘Dead by Daylight’ universe.
“At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever.
“Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.”
