A preliminary look at the reimagined, repurposed Philosopher’s Stone has been released just a day after a first photograph from the set.
The series aims to bring the legendary franchise to a new audience in television this time, after the roaring success of the Daniel Radcliffe-fronted films.
HBO’s release of an image of Dominic McLaughlin, clad in a Gryffindor cloak, a day previously had the public wondering when a first look would be available.
Film News Blitz’s Freddie Thomas-Neher took a closer look at the trailer.
When does the series release?
A Christmas Day 2026 release date has been confirmed, shocking fans across the world who were anticipating a wait until 2027 to see the Wizarding World back on their screens.
This marks the first time a venture into J.K. Rowling’s acclaimed universe has happened since the disastrous Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore limped to its trilogy’s conclusion in 2022.
The original film series concluded in 2011 with its eighth film, the Deathly Hallows – Part Two, after a decade-long saga that grossed nearly $8 billion.
Quite the logistical operation, the television series will follow a book per season, the first consisting of eight episodes.
Cast members have been rumoured to have been signed to decade-long contracts as the HBO series aims to bring a more comprehensive adaptation to the silver screen.
The trailer comes with a brief tagline underneath, simply saying:
“A new era of Hogwarts begins.”
What do we see?
A first sighting of Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived will be the main talking point for fans; he is visible receiving a telling off from the ever-charming Aunt Petunia, on the receiving end of a hard time from the even-more-charming cousin Dudley and more.
The Golden trio all get their moment, with fleeting glimpses of Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley as they all make their way to their first year at Hogwarts.
Flashes of Paapa Essiedu and John Lithgow as Professor Severus Snape and Headmaster Albus Dumbledore will also set tongues wagging, ever the tall order to stack up against the film series’ successes.
Other preliminary sightings include Nick Frost as Rebeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Anton Lesser as Mr. Ollivander and the ever-important Sorting Hat.
With less time to wait than originally expected, fans will be eagerly awaiting anything they can get their hands on ahead of the historic adaptation’s move to television.
