TV News: Euphoria release new trailer ahead of April premiere

Euphoria season three

The HBO series will make a return four years on from its second season, and after the death of cast member Eric Dane earlier this year.

The HBO series will make a return four years on from its second season, and after the death of cast member Eric Dane earlier this year.

The new season will release on April 12 and will see the familiar faces of East Highland High School face the tough realities of adulthood and their pasts.

The series stars Zendaya alongside major Hollywood players including Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo and Hunter Schafer.

Film News Blitz writer Freddie Thomas-Neher takes a look at the trailer.

What is the new season about?

Rue seems to be having a pretty rough time in the two trailers to date.

This time, she proclaims to Martha Kelly’s Laurie that “Alamo tried to kill me. And he’s gonna do the same to you.”

The first trailer saw Laurie appear to be the instigator behind the season with her seen approaching Rue for an unpaid debt.

This Alamo figure is as of yet unrevealed and with the oddities that follow Rue in this trailer, it’s anybody’s guess as to who this individual is and what their intentions are.

Zendaya’s character is seen being interviewed about Mexico, swallowing suspicious items and in the back of a police car.

Another focal point of the trailer sees Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie character declaring to Elordi’s Nate Jacobs that old friend turned foe Maddie (Alexa Demie) will be helping her on her quest for social media superstardom.

Sweeney is later seen walking down the aisle in a wedding dress.

With the implication that Elordi and Sweeney’s characters’ relationship has failed to see improvement through the five-year time-gap, the inevitability of that episode being a historic car crash is something of a sure thing.

Hunter Schafer’s Jules is also seen attending art college and on dates with older men who proclaim themselves to be her ‘sugar daddy’.

Confusing, but fresh faces

A fairly bizarre array of new cast members have joined the production, with little explanation to boot and absolutely no real reasoning behind any of them.

Leading the charge for the rather baffling casting is Internet celebrity Trisha Paytas, who has most recently found fame due to allegedly being the orchestrator of many celebrity deaths; a popular online theory has followed Paytas that every time she gives birth, an A-lister will fall.

Prominent victims include Queen Elizabeth II and Ozzy Osbourne.

Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch (well-known for his role in Rachel Sennot’s Bottoms) has continued his acting career after retirement and is one of the few new faces seen in the trailer.

The Super Bowl champion was pictured with a handgun hiding behind a wall, and on the receiving end of a very dramatic dolly zoom, loudly proclaiming: “Run!”.

Other cast members new to the production include singer Rosalia, Natasha Lyonne (of Orange is the New Black fame), Colleen Camp, Sharon Stone, Danielle Deadwyler, Matthew Willig (another NFL veteran), Kwame Paterson and more.

Eric Dane’s farewell

The season will also see the final performance from Eric Dane, who tragically passed away in February after a struggle with ALS.

Dane reprises his role as the problematic Cal Jacobs, father of Elordi’s Nate, who appears briefly, seemingly intoxicated at his son’s lavish wedding reuniting with his old ‘friend’ Jules.

It has been confirmed that by the time the late actor filmed his scenes, he had lost function in his dominant right arm.

The Grey’s Anatomy star publicly revealed his diagnosis in April 2025, just a week before shooting began for the third season of Euphoria.

Production issues

The passing of the late Angus Cloud, who played sympathetic drug dealer Fezco, in 2023 will also have had a significant impact on the extended gap between the show’s second and third seasons.

Cloud was found dead in his family’s home in Oakland, California after a mixed drug overdose, just a week after his father’s funeral.

Co-star Colman Domingo told Vanity Fair that Cloud’s character was originally slated to feature prominently throughout the season, with Fezco’s storyline ending on a cliffhanger at the end of season two.

It is unknown how the production will approach the late actor’s death, but the five-year time jump between seasons is sure to bring a variety of surprises.
