In the latest episode of A Friendly Film Take, Dan Lawrence is once again joined by Rhys Stacey, with anticipation for Dune: Part Three leading the discussion.

Fresh off an Easter bank holiday, the duo dives into their latest cinematic discoveries, tackling everything from blockbuster prep to the return of a modern horror icon.

The long road to ‘Dune: Part Three’

The episode kicks off with Rhys’ ambitious quest to consume every piece of Dune media ahead of the third instalment’s release in December 2026.

From the 2000s miniseries featuring a young James McAvoy to the recent Dune: Prophecy series, Rhys explores how Frank Herbert’s sprawling epic continues to captivate.

The pair discuss the “Dunesday” showdown at the box office, as Paul Atreides prepares to go head-to-head with Avengers: Doomsday.

A bloody good sequel: ‘Ready or Not 2’

Switching gears to the world of horror, Dan provides a glowing review of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

Directed by the Radio Silence duo, the sequel picks up immediately after the 2019 cult favourite.

Dan praises the expanded lore while highlighting the “sisterly chemistry” between Samara Weaving and franchise newcomer Kathryn Newton.

Despite some hefty “exposition dumping”, the film is hailed as a riotous, gory success.

Ryan Gosling saves the sun in ‘Project Hail Mary’

The discussion continues to review the box-office smash Project Hail Mary

Based on Andy Weir’s novel and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film is lauded for its emotional core and stunning practical effects.

Dan marvels at Rocky, the puppeteered alien rock, and Ryan Gosling’s versatile performance in this emotional crowd-pleaser.

The episode wraps up with a round of recommendations, including Wall-E, Interstellar, and the practical-effects masterclass, The Dark Crystal.
