Timothée Chalamet leads the Oscars race for Marty Supreme, but I Swear star Robert Aramayo put in 2026’s most deserving performance.
Chalamet is undeniably becoming a generational actor, and his performance in Marty Supreme has many tipping him to win the notorious best actor award at the 2026 Oscars.
That said, Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews thinks the snubbed Aramayo of I Swear deserves more recognition.
Best actor contenders at the 2026 Oscars
As we enter awards season, with a focus on the lead-up to the Academy Awards in March, it feels as though there is somewhat of a consensus as to who will win the individual acting awards.
For best actress, it is Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley who has become the favourite, having already been recognised at both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes with wins.

On the men’s side, Chalamet is somewhat running away with it, despite other notable performances from Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another, and Michael B Jordan in Sinners.
Yet, for the life of me, I can’t work out any good reason as to why Aramayo’s portrayal of John Davidson in Kirk Jones’ gutting I Swear isn’t getting any Hollywood recognition at all.
Who, unlike the names mentioned above, hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar whatsoever.
A truly amazing performance
I Swear follows the life of John Davidson, a young Scottish man who develops tourette’s as he enters the formative years of his upper childhood.
Tourette’s is a condition that causes someone to move or make sounds involuntarily in moments called tics.
According to Tourettes Action, over 300,000 people are living with TS in the UK.
In the film, the 33-year-old Aramayo helps tell the true story of Mr Davidson, who grew up with the condition in the 1980’s, when very little was understood about it.
He became a figurehead for inspiring young people with the condition to go and lead the lives they want, and allow them to have the right help available to them.
Aramayo, who was formerly best known for his role in The Rings of Power as Elrond, gave a truly stunning performance, and I genuinely had to look up if he had the condition due to the power of his performance.
BAFTA has recognised the brilliance of Robert Aramayo in ‘I Swear’
Two significant awards that Aramayo is being considered for are courtesy of BAFTA.
First is the Rising Star Award, where he is being pitted against One Battle After Another’s Chase Infiniti and Sinners’ Miles Caton, among others.
Those two certainly provide some very serious competition, and previous winners of the award include Tom Hardy, Emma Mackey, and James McAvoy, showing the true pedigree the award holds.
Moreover, Aramayo has also been considered by BAFTA for the best actor category, making up for the Oscars snub.
However, he will be going up against Chalamet, and his career-best performance in Marty Supreme.
Nevertheless, should Aramayo go unrewarded at this year’s awards ceremonies, we all know the supreme standards expected of him going forward.
