Film news: Krypto saves the day in James Gunn’s Superman trailer
Krypto is a Superman’s best friend in the first trailer for James Gunn’s tentpole DC Studios feature film.
Fans were treated to a technicolour comic book brought to life on Friday as DC Studios debuted its trailer for the upcoming Superman movie.
Film News Blitz’s David Bason breaks down the exciting trailer for one of next summer’s most-anticipated films.
When Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as co-chiefs of Warner Bros’ DC Studios they were set the unenviable task of starting the comic book brand’s film franchise anew.
Upon unveiling their slate in January 2023, Gunn and Safran went big with making Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy) the debut feature of the rebranded DCU.
And now, the trailer is here!
It begins with David Corenswet’s Superman crash-landing in a snowy landscape: battered, bloodied and bruised.
His laboured breathing is cross-cut with shots of the Daily Planet, his alter-ego Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and Pruitt Taylor Vince’s Jonathan Kent before returning to the scene of Superman’s crash-landing.
A whistle from the Man of Steel brings his loyal canine companion Krypton rushing in - ready to save the day and take Superman “home,” all the while an electrified version of Jonathan Williams' original score sets hearts soaring.
From there, audiences are treated to Superman heroics and flashes of Nicholas Hoult as arch-nemesis Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Ed Gathegi’s Mr Terrific and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho.
Giant monsters and moments of intimacy between Lois and Clark/Superman are intercut with more scenes of action and the icy Fortress of Solitude in what looks to be a delightful popcorn-crunching piece of big-action cinema.

Superman speaks!
Corenswet is the first man tasked with wearing the iconic red cape on the big screen since Henry Cavill’s tenure came to an end.
Speaking to Variety, Corenswet said “I just disassociate” when he sees himself on screen as the world’s most famous superhero.
“It’s not me up there. It’s Superman. It’s Clark Kent.
“What’s cool is seeing all your friends up there.”
Filming for Superman concluded in July in Norway at which point Gunn posted on social media a commemorative photo with select members of the cast.
"It has been an honour,” Gunn wrote in the post’s caption.
“The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we've shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful.”
Superman flies into theatres on July 11, 2025.
