Film news: The Batman sequel is stuck in the bat cave a while longer
Fans of The Dark Knight will have their patience tested longer as Warner Bros has announced a further delay to The Batman sequel.
Warner Bros. has announced a near year-long postponement from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027, for Robert Pattinson’s second outing as the world’s most famous vigilante.
Film News Blitz’s David Bason explains Warner Bros.’ updated release schedule.
Director/Co-Writer Matt Reeves made waves with his dark, gothic vision of Gotham in 2022’s The Batman, but he wants to make sure the follow-up is worthy of his grand debut.
As a result, the screenplay for the second film has yet to reach the final seal of approval, as DC Studios Co-Chief James Gunn explains.
“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” Gunn wrote on Threads.
“Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”

What we can expect from The Batman sequel?
Production is slated to begin on The Batman Sequel in the third quarter of 2025 and Reeves explained to Digital Spy what fans can expect.
”In the first movie, Batman views things very simplistically, he sees things in black and white,” Reeves said.
“What he can represent and how he can affect that.
“As we enter into the next movie, there’s a lot more grey.
“There’s a lot more people at odds. There’s a lot more division in the city. It’s a lot more like our world is now, there’s a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps and they’re not communicating.
“And when things are in grey, it makes it very hard to be Batman, so this is part of the challenge as we enter it.”
