Snoop Dogg and The Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss took to the 2026 CinemaCon stage to tease an upcoming biopic about the rapper’s life.
Daviss has been cast to star as Snoop in the Universal Pictures film.
Film News Blitz writer Sarah Sharp takes a look at this exciting project.
As well as being Snoop, Daviss can also be seen in Netflix’s The Outer Banks as Pope Heyward, his breakout role, and in the streaming platform’s film Do Revenge alongside Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes.
Snoop Dogg explained on stage that he wished he could give more details, but there aren’t many to give.
“We’ll be back at CinemaCon next year with a trailer,” he said.
Snoop’s biopic: everything we know so far
The biopic is currently untitled but is scheduled to start filming in Los Angeles this summer.
The project is set to be directed by Craig Brewer of Hustle & Flow and, more recently, Song Sung Blue.
The chair of NBCUniversal Entertainment, Donna Langley, got onstage at CinemaCon and called the film “the spiritual cousin of Straight Outta Compton” — the 2015 N.W.A biopic directed by F. Gary Gray.
Snoop Dogg also made an appearance in this film as the Get Out and Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield.
“After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it’s my turn,” said the rapper about the production of his own biopic.
He continued: “My director, Craig Brewer, he just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline.’”
Snoop Dogg will be producing the biopic alongside Brian Glazer and Death Row.
This will be the first project to come out of Death Row’s deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
The rapper also noted that the film is set to be rated R, “so get your parents’ permission”.
Snoop Dogg at CinemaCon 2026
Snoop Dogg didn’t just tease his biopic on the CinemaCon stage, but gave a performance as well.
“If we gonna do a Snoop Dogg movie, I gotta get gangster with it,” the rapper said, and then launched into ‘Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang’.
He also performed snippets from ‘Gin and Juice,’ ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and ‘Deep Cover,’ proving why he is a 17-time Grammy-nominated artist.
His debut album, Doggystyle, was released in 1993 under Death Row Records and with the production of Dr Dre. ‘Gin and Juice’ features on this album.
The biopic thus promises to bring the superstar rapper’s life to the screen, following Snoop Dogg’s journey to legendary status.
