On 27 May 2026, Marvel and Amazon Prime’s upcoming TV series Spider-Noir will premiere, with all eight episodes available to stream globally.
Spider-Man fans are in for a real treat this May. The Spider-Noir spin-off looks dark and gritty, exactly the tone a series like this should have.
Film News Blitz writer Jonathon House takes a look at what fans can expect from this new show in the wake of an intriguing new trailer.
What is ‘Spider-Noir’ about?
Spider-Noir follows private investigator Ben Reilly, who is forced out of retirement to confront villains such as Sandman (Jack Huston), Tombstone (Abraham Popoola) and Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson).
Instead of being set in the present day, the show takes place in the 1930s, giving it a unique twist and a fresh identity within the Spider-Man universe.
The show is developed by co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, and takes inspiration from the noir variant of Spider-Man, voiced by Nicolas Cage, that appeared in the animated Spider-Verse film franchise.
Cage reprises the role in this live-action series, and Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are credited as executive producers.
New York City provides a rich, atmospheric backdrop to the story, which viewers will be able to enjoy either in colour or black and white.
Interestingly, instead of calling Ben ‘Spider-Man,’ the series refers to him simply as ‘The Spider.’
Cage is joined in the cast by Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Popoola, Huston, and Gleeson.
Trailer breakdown
Right from the start, the recently released trailer embraces a black-and-white visual style (a colour version is also available), and it looks fantastic, dark, gritty, and perfectly suited to the noir theme.
We get sweeping shots of New York City, and the world feels authentic and lived-in, exactly the kind of place a noir-inspired superhero story belongs.
We then see our first look at Ben Reilly as The Spider. The trailer shows him swinging between buildings, and the suit looks great in motion.
Overall, the trailer delivers everything you’d expect from a 1930s noir superhero series: it feels old-school, atmospheric, and stylish in all the right ways.
Does ‘Spider-Noir’ exist in the MCU?
Spider-Noir is separate from the MCU and tells its own standalone story in its own universe.
So far, Cage’s Spider-Noir has only one season confirmed, but the creators have said the door is open for additional seasons in the future.
