The trailer for Gregg Araki’s kinky film, I Want Your Sex, starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, has been released.

Hoffman stars as Elliot, who is hired by Wilde’s Erika Tracy, who sets about making her new employee her sexual muse.

The trailer plays on this premise by showing audiences glimpses of the duo’s various sexual escapades.

All sorts of kinks are on display, and sexual dynamics are questioned in the trailer, which also sees Hoffman’s character in a police interrogation.

The ensemble cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Daveed Diggs, Chase Sui Wonders, Mason Gooding, Margaret Cho, and Charli XCX in a story that is officially summarised thusly: “When fresh-faced Elliot (Hoffman) lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde), his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.”

BlackBear will distribute I Want Your Sex to UK cinemas on 28 August.

Sex in cinema

I Want Your Sex made a huge impression at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.

It’s a film that aims to cut straight to the heart of a topic that is quite pertinent for the industry: do Gen Z audiences not want to see sex on screen?

Writer/director Gregg Araki told the IndieWire Studio, “My one-liner for this movie is that it’s a sex positive love letter for Gen Z.

“As a person and as an artist, sex and sexuality have been a huge part of my life and my evolution and my art and everything.

“It’s really like what’s made me the person I am today, and the idea that there’s a generation that’s not experiencing that was something that I really wanted to explore.”

Hoffman, speaking to TheWrap, said he was drawn to the screenplay as it encourages younger generations to gleefully explore their desires in an empathetic way.

“The movie’s telling you, ‘Just go. Go f–k. Go do it,” he explained.

“Obviously, within the aspects of consent and everything, but Elliot isn’t forced against his will. He’s just put in a position to do what he wants.”

A study from UCLA revealed that nearly half of Gen Z audiences (48.4%) believe there’s “too much sex and sexual content in TV and movies.”

Speaking at the Sundance premiere (via Variety), Wilde explained why she thinks that is the case.

“I choose to interpret that statistic maybe as Gen Z saying, ‘We don’t want to see inauthenticity anymore. We want to see real relationships, and we want to have something that feels more genuine.’

“This movie is an incredibly irreverent, playful take on showing this part of the sexual revolution of a young person. The whole idea is to try things, live your life, experiment, fall on your face and get back up.”

The trailer for I Want Your Sex is definitely designed to hook audiences in with scenes of eroticism and kinks.

However, the sentiment behind the scenes appears to go far deeper, and makes I Want You Sex a compelling case study of a film.
