Robert Pattinson has spoken out after an official announcement confirming that production for the much-awaited sequel to 2022’s The Batman has been halted.
Last week, a spokesperson for DC Studios confirmed that production on The Batman: Part II had been “temporarily paused” due to an unspecified “family matter” affecting filmmaker Matt Reeves.
The representative added: “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
Shooting for the film has now been halted, with no word as of yet regarding when production will resume.
This setback is not the first to hit the project, which has faced numerous delays in the four years since the first film was released in cinemas.

Robert Pattinson speaks out
Now Pattinson, who plays the titular character in The Batman’s first instalment, has broken his silence on the project’s latest roadblock.
Last week, in an interview with Official Pop Drop at the British Film Institute Film Festival in London, Pattinson was quizzed about the sequel for the first time.
When asked about how its director was doing, he told the interviewer: “We’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out.”
Earlier this year while promoting The Drama, the actor teased a new direction for the sequel, telling Deadline: “The script is extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really special movie and very, very different.”
He hinted that the sequel would diverge significantly from the first instalment, adding: “It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings.”
A huge success for DC Studios
The project is a follow-up to the 2022 box office hit The Batman, starring Pattinson alongside a host of other huge names in the industry such as Zoë Kravitz and Paul Dano.
The film was a huge commercial triumph, grossing $369.3 million in the United States and Canada, and $402.9 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $772.3 million.
Critics lauded the film as one of the best in the Batman franchise, praising both Pattinson and Kravitz’s performances.
Spurred on by the film’s success, HBO even went on to develop an eight-part spin-off series titled The Penguin, focusing on the antagonist’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld following the events of The Batman.
Not the first delay for ‘The Batman: Part II’
However, The Batman’s sequel has been plagued with delays since the outset.
In 2023, Hollywood writers’ strikes presented a significant barrier during the film’s early production, later compounded by Pattinson’s commitments to The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three.
The film was originally set to be released in October 2025, but shooting only began in London in June 2026.
The project’s release date was later pushed back and remains scheduled to hit cinemas in February 2028.
It has not yet been confirmed whether Reeves will return to the project, or if another filmmaker will see the film to the finish line.
