Film News Blitz’s RC Stacey takes a stab at the exciting horror news.

‘Scream 7’ joins horror trend with 2026 IMAX release

Horror has recently seen a resurgence in popularity in the IMAX format, with recent studio fare such as The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025), and Midsommar (2019) enjoying the benefit of the immersive, large-screen experience.

The highest-grossing IMAX horror release to date is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus (2024), which hit over $40 million in IMAX ticket sales.

‘SCREAM 7’ IMAX SCREENINGS NEAR YOU

Kevin Williamson, who penned the original, Scream 2 and Scream 4, in collaboration with late horror maestro Wes Craven, has taken the directorial seat for the latest movie.

Original Scream 7 director Christopher Landon exited due to online backlash against the firing of actor Melissa Barrera, even though reports confirm that Landon did not make the decision to fire her

Before leaving the project, he described it as a “dream job that turned into a nightmare”.

Barrera was let go from the Paramount production after a series of social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war.

Jenna Ortega, for unrelated reasons, elected not to return for a third round against Ghostface.

Returning to the franchise, however, is Neve Campbell (who was not present for Scream VI due to salary disputes).

David Arquette returns as Dewey Riley, alongside original Ghostface Matthew Lillard and Scream 3 mastermind Scott Foley.

Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, after moving to a “quiet” town, is once again under threat from a new Ghostface killer.

The future of the ‘Scream’ franchise

The details of the film are scant, but we can be certain of blood, gore, twists, and turns.

Scream 7 was co-written with Zodiac (2007) and Nuremberg (2025) screenwriter James Vanderbilt, who has overseen writing the franchise soft-reboot since 2022’s Scream (aka Scream 5).

With Scream 8 already confirmed as in pre-production, are you excited for more of everyone’s favourite Ghostly killer on the REALLY big screen?

Or do you think the franchise is bleeding out? Let us know in the comments!
