An eight-part TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie is on the way from Amazon MGM Studios and Mike Flanagan this October.

The latest take on ‘Carrie’ arrives in time for Halloween 2026

October has become synonymous with a new release from horror maestro Flanagan, and 2026 proves no different with the release of his eight-part Carrie series, currently in post-production.

This iteration of Carrie will see Flanagan trading streaming homes from Netflix, which saw commercial and critical hits, The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Midnight Mass, to Amazon Prime Video.

Carrie represents the fourth King adaptation from Flanagan, including Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, with the fifth adaptation slated to be a television adaptation of The Mist.

The original novel of the same name from 1974 has been adapted previously by Brian De Palma (in the most iconic version starring Sissy Spacek in the blood-soaked lead), as well as David Cason and Kimberley Pierce.

What is ‘Carrie’ about?

Carrie tells the story of an out-of-place high-schooler whose life, in all aspects, is ruled over by a cruel mother.

On the receiving end of harsh bullying at home and school, Carrie discovers she has telekinetic powers that she uses to enact revenge on her wrongdoers.

Actress Katee Sackhoff, who previously collaborated with Flanagan on his 2013 sleeper hit Oculus, joins the series.

Shared at Fan Expo Vancouver, Sackhoff said of Flanagan, “You guys are gonna love it. Mike Flanagan is so good at what he does: smart, psychological horror. And he’s very, very good at adapting Stephen King, and Stephen trusts him.”

Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, and occasional director in a limited series developed with Amazon MGM studios, in what has been described as a “bold and timely reimagining” of the classic, blood-soaked story.

Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, and Amber Midthunder round out the cast.

Looking forward to another slice of Flanagan horror this coming Halloween?
