Film news: ‘Dune: Part Three’ IMAX tickets reselling at mad prices

Something is brewing with Dune: Part Three, which is already generating huge interest through its early ticket sales for IMAX 70MM screenings.

Ahead of the film’s release in December, Warner Bros. put tickets on sale for 70MM Imax 7 pm showings across its opening weekend (Thursday 17 – Sunday 20 December) earlier this week.

This isn’t uncommon, with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey putting select IMAX tickets on sale a year in advance of its release this July.

Like The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three is generating some absolutely massive interest in these ultra-premium format screenings, and according to multiple reports, Warner Bros. has boldly claimed tickets across the 19 IMAX 70MM screens have sold out.

This goes to show the star power director Denis Villeneuve has drummed up throughout a glittering film career, which has recently seen him successfully adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune novel into two mega-spectacle movies.

Why IMAX should be important for ‘Dune: Part Three’?

The importance of IMAX shouldn’t be understated, with it becoming a major component of box office success.

For instance, Slash Film reports that IMAX accounted for $1.28 billion at the global box office in 2025, and 20% of the opening weekend gross domestically for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

It’s clear, then, that big movies work well when presented on a very big screen, and fans will rush to secure these types of tickets.

That could be why some of the aforementioned Dune: Part Three IMAX tickets are reselling at prices that would make your eyes water.

Some enterprising folk have been floating IMAX 70MM tickets for Dune: Part Three for prices as high as $2,100!

That mad figure related to a now stripped eBay listing, but it just goes to show the frenzy that is already stirring for Villeneuve’s film.

In reaction to the promising sales results, Warner Bros President of Global Distribution Jeff Goldstein said (via Deadline), “This incredible result is proof that the fans’ anticipation to experience Dune: Part Three as it was meant to be — on the biggest, boldest screens possible — is at a fever pitch.

“Once again, Denis Villeneuve has crafted an unmissable cinematic experience for audiences, whether they are fans of the first two films, or will be discovering this world for the first time. We congratulate Denis and our partners at Legendary and Imax on this exciting outcome and look forward to sharing Dune: Part Three with moviegoers everywhere.”

Is ‘Dune: Part Three’ getting ready to crush ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

This development is also another blow to Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which moved to join Dune: Part Three’s 18 December release date after originally being slated for a 1 May opening.

Already, Dune: Part Three had beaten Doomsday to IMAX exclusivity in the U.S. for its opening weekend, and the extreme interest in these early release tickets all but confirms the film isn’t budging from its release date.

Will Marvel blink? Or will the superhero machine duke it out with Villeneuve’s film for box office supremacy?

It’s an intriguing battle to keep an eye on as the year develops.

In the meantime, fans will eagerly anticipate Dune: Part Three, based on Herbert’s novel Dune: Messiah

Dune: Part Three stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach De Bankolé and Charlotte Rampling, with Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem, and is the first in the franchise to be shot on IMAX film cameras.
