After years of looking like the film may never see the light of day, the first trailer for ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ has arrived.
Will the animated live-action hybrid live up to the commotion that was caused by Warner Bros’ antics in the first place?
Film News Blitz’s Oscar Trinick has more on the first trailer.
Cast and synopsis
Based on the 1990 magazine article from The New Yorker, Coyote vs. Acme draws from the Looney Tunes franchise in its signature comical fashion.
The feature film follows Wile E. Coyote as he seeks to sue the Acme corporation for selling him faulty products.
The film stars Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor.
A rough road to the big screen
Dave Green was hired to direct the film back in 2019, with the screenplay being written by Samy Burch.
Cena, Forte and Condor were eventually cast in the first part of 2022.
Live-action filming began in March of 2022, ending in May of the same year.
Then, in November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the film initially to obtain a tax write-off.
Following a lot of public backlash for their decision, they changed their mind and allowed the crew to seek other distributors for the film.
Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired the film’s rights in March 2025.

Trailer details
The trailer opens in the desert, where Wile E. Coyote is trying to use a pair of what appear to be Acme-branded, rocket-powered boots to catch up to the Roadrunner.
After a delay, they blow up in his face.
We then see Will Forte’s character, Kevin Avery, a lawyer who is trying to help against all the accidents caused by Acme products.
John Cena’s character appears to be acting on behalf of the Acme corporation, as he calls out Coyote for being “reckless” and having “self-inflicted” injuries.
The live-action, animation hybrid is every bit the cartoonish mess you’d expect, as the rest of the trailer shows explosions and chaos, with Avery’s small-time crew trying to take down Acme once and for all.
Release date
Coyote vs. Acme will finally crash into cinemas on August 28, 2026.
