CinemaCon 2026: Dwayne Johnson reveals official ‘Jumanji 3’ title

Two side-by-side scenes from the modern Jumanji movies: Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black wearing khaki standing in the desert; Johnson holding a glowing green orb in a jungle alongside Karen Gillan.

The third instalment of the Jumanji reboot series has officially been titled Jumanji: Open World.

Film News Blitz‘s Sarah Sharp unpacks the details.

Stars of the franchise, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, took to the CinemaCon stage on Monday to make the announcement.

The trio closed out Sony’s CinemaCon presentation, as Black explained how pumped they were to be back for another Jumanji film.

“I’ve never had more fun working on a movie,” said Black (via The Hollywood Reporter), “This is my favourite so far.”

They also gave the room an exclusive first look at the film.

A whole new world

Welcome to the (concrete) jungle!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released in 2017, with sequel Jumanji: The Next Level following in 2019, both of them spun from the original Jumanji title starring Robin Williams in the mid-1990s.

The two films are predominantly centred around a group of high-schoolers who are sucked into a video game, taking on the appearance of the in-game avatars played by Johnson, Hart, and Black, alongside Karen Gillan.

This time around, it appears the game has come to them through, with first look teasing Jumanji’s chaos being brought into the real world, continuing from the mid-credit tease in Jumanji: The Next Level.

The avatars are thus thrust into the real world, and they appear to be stuck in “demo mode”.

Other returning cast members include: Nick Jonas, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Awkwafina.

Jumanji: Open World is set up to be an interesting exploration of the universe, where the fate of Jumanji as well as the real world is in the hands of our group of ragtag teens.

The nitty gritty

The film was originally scheduled to release in theatres on 11 December 2026, but has been pushed back to Christmas Day.

Director of the first two films, Jake Kasdan, is back for the third instalment with a script he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

At CinemaCon, Johnson also revealed how the film nods at the original 1995 Jumanji, starring the late, great Williams.

“Robin, as we like to say, this one’s for you,” said Johnson, while also noting that the original dice used in the first film will be making a return.

We look forward to feeling the magic of Jumanji once again in cinemas!
