On 27 February, 2026, Scream 7 will be released in cinemas, with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox reprising her role as Gale Weathers.
A new addition to the cast is Isabel May, who will be playing Sidney’s daughter, Tatum, writes Film News Blitz’s Jonathon House.
The film will most likely focus on Sidney and her daughter, Tatum, as Ghostface strikes again.
But what does he want this time? There is certainly a huge amount of hype surrounding the film, especially since Sidney did not appear in Scream VI.
Sidney returns to centre stage in ‘Scream 7’
When you think about it, we have not had a truly Sidney-centred story since Scream 4, and even that focused heavily on her cousin, Jill Roberts.
Although Sidney appeared in Scream (2022), that film mainly centred on Melissa Barrera’s character Sam and Jenna Ortega’s character Tara.
We have not seen Sidney as the primary final girl since 2011, so many fans are excited to see her back in the spotlight.
However, despite the excitement, the film has also faced controversy.
Some fans have said they do not plan to watch the movie following the firing of Barrera due to comments she made about the Israel–Palestine conflict.
As a result, Spyglass Media Group, the production company at the time, removed Barrera from the role of Sam.
Shortly after, Jenna Ortega stepped down from her role as Tara.
Spyglass received significant backlash, with many fans saying they intend to boycott the film because of how Barrera was treated.
Even so, there is still strong anticipation for Scream 7, particularly because Sidney was absent from Scream VI.
‘Scream 7’ fan theories
There has also been ongoing speculation about the return of Stu Macher, originally played by Matthew Lillard.
For years, fans have theorised that Stu is still alive, but the big question is: how would they bring him back?
Some fans believe he could return in flashbacks as the original killer, while others think he may appear through AI, especially since Scream 7 is reportedly partnering with Meta AI.
It won’t be long until we find out how the Scream 7 team pull this off.
Lillard is not the only former Ghostface linked to return theories.
Roman Bridger, played by Scott Foley, has also been mentioned in fan discussions ahead of a surprise return.
One theory suggests the new killer could be using AI as a way to psychologically target Sidney, which could make for a modern and interesting plot direction.
So, what is Ghostface’s motive this time?
A fan favourite suspect is Jessica Bowden, played by Anna Camp. Many believe she could be revealed as Stu’s sister.
If the theory about Stu appearing through AI is true, this would explain why Ghostface might use his likeness to taunt Sidney.
Whoever Ghostface turns out to be, it is going to be one hell of a reveal.
