Film opinion: Is ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ a perfect family ‘Star Wars’ movie?

Two side-by-side film stills featuring characters from Star Wars. On the left, the Mandalorian stands in a dark, wet alleyway with sparks flying in the background, while Grogu peeks over his shoulder. On the right, a close-up shows Grogu looking forward, with three small Anzellan creatures blurred in the background on a grey terrain.

Last Friday, The Mandalorian and Grogu hit cinemas, and the reviews have certainly been mixed.

A lot of reviews have been negative, but many have also been really positive.

Even though this film is nothing mind-blowing, Film News Blitz’s Jonathon House believes it works well as a fun, family-friendly movie that people can just sit back and enjoy.

If you want a Star Wars film full of deep lore that massively adds to the main storyline, then this film probably is not for you.

But if you want a fun time at the cinema with enjoyable characters and action, then this film does exactly that.

What works well in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

The Mandalorian and Grogu works really well as a fun Star Wars movie.

The plot is not too hard to follow, which makes it easy for families and casual viewers to enjoy.

Moreover, the relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu is still the heart of the story, and their bond works really well throughout the film.

You can have a fun time watching The Mandalorian and Grogu at the cinema; it is entertaining, easy to watch, and feels like a good standalone adventure.

This works best when viewed as a one-off movie rather than something huge for the franchise.

What didn’t work well in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

First of all, The Mandalorian and Grogu could have easily been made into a six-episode series instead.

That would have allowed more time to develop the story and add more depth to certain moments and characters.

Yes, it was a fun watch, but it doesn’t feel like there was an overwhelming need for this film to be brought to cinemas.

It works well as a great family film, but beyond that, it doesn’t offer much more.

Does this film add to ‘The Mandalorian’ series?

Unfortunately, this film also adds little to the existing story that The Mandalorian series has crafted on Disney+

If this film did not exist, it wouldn’t have a major effect on The Mandalorian as a whole.

Overall, The Mandalorian and Grogu is a passable, fun, family-friendly watch, but its merits beyond that are scarce.
