Five years after he announced he’d lead a Fred Astaire biopic, Tom Holland has two new cast members: Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter.
Qualley has been cast as Astaire’s sister Adele, while Carpenter has landed the exciting task of stepping into Ginger Rogers’ dancing shoes.
Adele Astaire, like her brother, was a star of London’s West End and Broadway.
Rogers was an all-singing, all-dancing icon who shared several major motion pictures with Fred Astaire.
The duo starred in 10 films together from 1933 through to 1949.
An exciting young cast
Holland heads towards this product after an incredible 2026 in cinemas.
First, he put in a career-best performance in Christopher Nolan’s stunning ensemble, The Odyssey.
Next, Holland returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has dominated the box office in 2026.
Qualley is also a young star of high renown and has starred in The Substance and most recently, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars.
She also co-starred and co-directed with Carpenter in the music video for the latter’s pop hit, ‘House Tour’.
Carpenter, a former Disney TV actress, is now one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
Her unbelievable stage presence no doubt will serve her well as Rogers.
Top directing talent
The exciting trio of young stars will be directed by Paul King.
King’s directing credits include smash hits like Paddington 2 and Wonka.
“I am thrilled and honoured to have been entrusted with telling the story of Fred Astaire and his original dance partner — his big sister Adele — to the big screen,” King said (via Deadline).
“Fred left a timeless legacy of dance on film, most famously in his collaborations with Ginger Rogers, while Adele’s work has been lost to history; indeed, no footage of her dancing survives.
“The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the 20th century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side.”
