Season two of HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation has just been announced, seven months before the release of the first.
It will be titled Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, a straight adaptation of the second book.
Filming for the second season is set to commence in Autumn 2026.
Film News Blitz writer Bella Ford reports.
Anticipation is high for the HBO ‘Harry Potter’ series
HBO’s Harry Potter series aims to adapt all seven novels over a decade, with each season covering one book.
The first trailer for season one was the most-watched ever for HBO, gaining 277 million views in 48 hours.
Warner Bros. announced the television adaptation in April 2023, and they promoted it as a more accurate adaptation of the books compared to the uber-successful film franchise that commenced in the early 2000s.
Each episode will be about forty-five minutes to an hour, and the series will be eight episodes long, giving production a chance to fully dive into the wizarding world.
The renewal for season two comes over a month after HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed production was in the works.
Season one is based on the first book, The Philosopher’s Stone, which follows young wizard Harry as he is accepted into Hogwarts, the school for witchcraft and wizardry.
That opens a new path which leads to danger in the later books – a tale well told and well known the world over.
Familiar colleagues
The writer Jon brown who worked on the first season, has now been promoted to co-showrunner alongside the showrunner of season one, Francesca Gardiner.
“I’ve loved working with Jon from the very first day we met on Succession through to these recent times together on Harry Potter,” Gardiner said (via the RadioTimes).
“Not only do I have huge admiration for his writing, but he’s also a brilliant collaborator and a lovely person.”
Jon Brown also commented: “It has been a joy to write on Philosopher’s Stone, and I’d like to thank Francesca and HBO for putting their faith in me to continue this remarkable journey.
“Seems you’re never too old to get your invitation to Hogwarts.”
Casting
There’s still lots of speculation about who will play Lord Voldemort (the main villain in the franchise).
Original franchise star Ralph Fiennes recently denied rumours of a return; it is more likely that it will go to a new actor.
Most recently, Paul Bettany has been rumoured.
He’s known for playing Vision in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe); unfortunately, he has also denied any involvement.

Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, while Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton have also been cast as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
The trio were selected after 30,000 children auditioned at an open casting call.
A new ‘golden trio’ will be hard to rival as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are so iconic.
Other core cast members include Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
Season one of Harry Potter will land on HBO this Christmas.
