With Tom Holland’s fourth solo Marvel film coming to cinemas in July 2026, Film News Blitz‘s Madi Chantry tells you everything you need to know before watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ recap
Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows on from the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021.
In the last movie, Spider-Man’s identity, Peter Parker, was revealed to the world because of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Mysterio, who appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
To make everyone forget his real identity, Peter confides in Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell.
Peter messes up the spell, causing a rift in the multiverse, and several heroes and villains come to their world.
Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man feature in this movie, helping Tom Holland’s web-slinger with the iconic rogues gallery that includes Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
In the end, Spider-Man makes Strange cast a spell to make everyone forget who Peter Parker is, and all the heroes and villains return to their own universes.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer information
Building on those events, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, four years have passed, and Peter is completely alone because he chose not to reveal his identity to anyone, including Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned.
All three attend university, but Peter has no friends and no family, leaving him with no one to turn to.
Because no one knows Peter exists, he is no longer backed up by Stark Industries, meaning his suit is self-made with limited resources.
From the trailer, it’s seen that Peter wakes up in a web cocoon and develops organic web shooters.
His fear of DNA mutation prompts him to visit Dr Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), an expert on physical transformations due to his other half, the Hulk.
The film may reintroduce the classic Savage Hulk, the furthest persona away from Smart Hulk.
The plot line of Peter undergoing a genetic mutation may be a hint that he is becoming Man-Spider.
In the comics, Man-Spider is a mutated form of Spider-Man and is the last stage of his initial genetic transformation.
The trailer also confirms that Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher and Michael Mando’s Scorpion appear in the movie.
Sadie Sink also stars in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her identity is hidden in the trailer as her face is not shown.
This might mean her appearance is essential to the plot and the future of the Marvel movies.
