Film analysis: Will ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ live up to the hype?

Stills of Tom Holland in costume as Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya as MJ

On 31 July 2026, the long-awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas, and the hype around it is enormous.

Fans have been buzzing ever since the emotional ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, a moment that left audiences heartbroken.

The trailer for Brand New Day confirms that MJ still doesn’t know who Peter is, and fans are desperate to see how these characters will interact now that their memories are gone.

Film News Blitz writer Jonathon House reports.

Trailer breakdown

The trailer opens with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker sitting alone on a rooftop, watching videos of MJ and Ned, a painful reminder of everything he’s lost.

We then hear Peter explaining the events of No Way Home, setting the emotional tone for the film.

Next, we see Peter and MJ in the same room at what looks like a party.

The tension is clear: Peter remembers everything… MJ remembers nothing. Peter’s voiceover hits hard: “Sometimes Spider-Man has to do the right thing, even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart.”

A mysterious scene follows where Peter is trapped in his own webs, confused and panicked, hinting at a possible new threat or power issue.

The trailer then cuts to Aunt May’s funeral, reminding us just how much Peter lost in the last film.

With all this grief and isolation, fans are wondering: Are we about to see a darker version of Peter Parker?

Box office prediction

With hype at this level, it’s impossible not to talk numbers.

While nothing is guaranteed, early projections suggest Brand New Day could be a massive hit, potentially crossing $1 billion globally.

Some bold predictions even estimate totals as high as $2.54 billion worldwide.

One thing is certain: Spider-Man is one of the most beloved franchises in cinema, and this film is positioned to perform incredibly well.
