It has been five years since Daniel Craig’s last hurrah as James Bond in No Time To Die (2021), writes Film News Blitz’s Madeline Rhodes.
For over 60 years, Bond has been one of the most iconic characters on the silver screen.
Hollywood’s biggest ongoing convocation is the speculation over who will inherit the role of 007.
Amazon MGM Studios has taken full creative control of the franchise as of February 2025.
Whilst there is no official confirmation as to who will be the next Bond, there have been many famous names thrown into the mix.
The spy who loved waiting
The producers are in no rush to make their decisions after emphasising they’d like to let Daniel Craig’s legacy settle before moving onto the next.
Now Amazon has an increase of involvement, the timeline has reportedly been reshaped.
With the progression of finding a new Bond taking longer than expected, fans can only hope they make the right decision.
Given the cultural significance of James Bond, and the franchise’s heavy influence on cinema pacing, consumer trends and pop culture, selecting the next actor to play 007 is of utmost importance.
GoldenEye
Producers of the global movie saga are keeping a GoldenEye on this generation’s leading men in the industry, and speculation has heightened around the actors most frequently associated with the role of James Bond.
Barbara Broccoli, the former long-standing producer of Bond films, confirmed before handing over the keys to Amazon that the franchise is looking for a male actor in his 30s who can dedicate themselves to the role for at least a decade.
Casting director Nina Gold told Deadline the next Bond needs to “ooze sex appeal”.
Although no official shortlist has been announced, there have been numerous men who continue to dominate the conversations.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson has long been a name favoured by bookmakers, known for his roles in Godzilla (2014), Bullet Train (2022) and Kraven the Hunter (2024).
He also co-starred in the film Fuze (2025) alongside another bookies’ contender, Theo James, a 41-year-old British actor who has previously won a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award in 2023 for his role in season two of White Lotus (2022).
Despite being one of the more experienced names linked to the role, several younger actors have also emerged as strong candidates, such as Harris Dickinson and Paul Mescal.
The rumour mill has also pointed towards Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner and Damson Idris.

Live and let fly
From Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, all the actors to take on this role have faced scrutiny before proving themselves as the right decision for 007.
So there is no doubt any choice the producers make will see backlash from fans.
Pierce Brosnan’s sophistication and Roger Moore’s charm show each actor has left their own distinct mark on the film series.
The next Bond will have some big shoes to fill and is expected to honour the legacy that is 007.
They will also have to bring something new to the role as producer Barbara Broccoli has stated the character will undergo a “whole new reinvention”.
Rumours will likely continue until an official reveal is made – and whoever ultimately succeeds will join an exclusive list of actors who have shaped one of cinema’s most iconic characters.
