A new trailer for Slow Horses season six confirms that Olivia Cooke will return as Sid Baker, having presumably been shot dead in the first season.
The House of the Dragon star pops up right at the end of the new teaser, much to the shock of Jack Lowden’s River Cartwright.
Lowden, Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb, and Kristin Scott Thomas’ Diana Taverner will all make their mark on the latest adaptation of acclaimed novelist Mick Herron’s Slough House books.
How is Sid back in ‘Slow Horses’?
Fans of Herron’s novels won’t be surprised by the return of Cooke’s character, but anyone who consumes the Slow Horses TV show alone will be pleasantly shocked.
See, the last time we saw Sid was partway through season one, where she was shot in the head and presumed dead after a short stint in hospital.
A hint was made that she possibly survived, with the season six trailer confirming this.
Also returning is Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness – terrorist and Cartwright’s father.
Moreover, the trailer confirms that Paul Higgins, last seen in season one portraying Struan Loy, is also back.
The trailer sees Lamb confronting Taverner, with his Slow Horses past and present all under deadly threat in some sort of witch hunt.
It sees the Slough House team put on lockdown, and Rosalind Eleazar’s Louisa Guy pulled back into the fold.
All change for season six
There is more dramatic change in season six, which will be the first without Will Smith’s firm hand on the tiller.
Smith has stepped away from his showrunner-esque duties, with executive producer Gaby Chiappe taking over as the lead writer of the show.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Doug Urbanski is confident season six will demonstrate a smooth creative transition.
“Will leaving really meant that we just had to solve it, and I think we did, as you will see with season six about to premiere,” Urbanski said.
“Some people have seen it already and have said they think it’s the best season yet. Now we’ve heard that season after season, but it is very good.”
Moreover, unlike previous seasons, this one covers two books in one, the sixth and seventh in Herron’s series.
“We thought the two books each were thin enough,” Urbanski explained.
When will ‘Slow Horses’ season six begin?
Season six will premiere on Apple TV on Wednesday 16 September, with weekly episodes running through 21 October 2026.
The official synopsis for the upcoming episodes of Slow Horses reads: “Season six sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.”
The cast is rounded out by Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Sir Jonathan Pryce and Lenny Rush.
