What do you do when you’re a horror film fan and your local cinema isn’t screening Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil?
Friday 18 September is a great day for fans of Resident Evil, video game adaptations and horror in general.
That’s because Cregger’s take on the franchise, starring Weapons alumni Austin Abrams, is now in cinemas.
Well, not every cinema.
A desperate plea to watch ‘Resident Evil’ in cinemas
Thanks to the worldwide sensation that was Weapons, Cregger is seen as one of the hottest properties in horror, and that’s why so many want to see his new Resident Evil film, a bold new take on the video game franchise.
Resident Evil is compulsory viewing for a friend of mine – who, for anonymity’s sake, I’ll name Geoff.
He’s an avid gamer and horror nut, but unfortunately, his local theatre, Kings Cinema in Kingsbridge, doesn’t have any showings.
With a young baby at home, Geoff can’t afford to travel farther for a movie, so what can he do?
A passionate email to Kings Cinema was his only option.
Here is that email:
Hi there,
Hope you’re well.
My name’s Geoff and I live in Kingsbridge. I have a 9-month-old and rarely have a free evening to go further than the Tesco in Kingsbridge.
Why am I starting my message like this? Well, it’s to give context and hopefully compound my case that, as both a patron of real cinemas and an absolute horror nerd, I was disappointed to discover that Kings Cinema in Kingsbridge will not be doing any screenings of the new Resident Evil movie.
It is with hope that I am not the only person who has reached out regarding this, and it is also my hope that this message is read with the good intent that it comes with – I cannot travel to any cinema further afield than Kingsbridge for a solo cinema trip due to the aforementioned baby – but am hoping you would consider, even if it’s a one-off screening, to bring Resident Evil to Kingsbridge. If I am the only person locally wanting this, I’ll gladly buy an ungodly amount of snacks and drinks from the concession stand.
I say all of this for two main reasons: 1. The cinema experience is unparalleled. 2. I’m impatient and don’t want to wait to rent it on Amazon Video and give (even more) money to Bezos.
