Whoever produces the next series of Doctor Who should look no further than SNL UK star George Fouracres for the lead.
Fouracres is a dream casting, and Richard Osman originally floated his name during a conversation on The Rest is Entertainment podcast.
Doctor Who is in a period of flux; the BBC has just launched the tender process in search of a new production studio to carry the show forward.
Fouracres has got what it takes to be the Doctor
A new era of Who is approaching, and Fouracres should be at its forefront.
First off, he’s a great age at 35, but more importantly, he has an impressive CV.
He’s a theatre actor who has performed in several productions for Shakespeare’s Globe, including The Comedy of Errors, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, Twelfth Night, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Hailing from the Black Country, Fouracres has several other theatre credits and is the third member of comedy sketch group Daphne.
More importantly, his work on SNL UK has been exemplary.
From his Keir Starmer impressions, to the British Pork sketch and his wonderful 45 Seconds with Fouracres segment, Fouracres has demonstrated an enviable comic range, incredible stage poise and wonderful eccentricity.
It’s almost as if someone took everything that makes the Doctor great, put it into a lab and concocted Fouracres from scratch.
He definitely has that Tom Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Matt Smith energy.
George Fouracres is a ‘proper fan’ of ‘Doctor Who’
Fouracres is a massive fan of Doctor Who, making him an even better fit for the lead.
When asked about Doctor Who by Metro during an SNL UK press interview, Fouracres described the Doctor as a “dream” role.
“It’s hard to talk about because… like, obviously that would be my biggest dream ever come true, ever,” he said.
“That would be obviously the thing I would probably most like to do in the universe.
“Even the fact that people have brought it up is so flattering and so gorgeous to me as a fan of Doctor Who, a proper fan.
“The idea of fellow fans saying that about me is so massive to me and so lovely – I really appreciate it.
“I try and not pay attention to things generally, but I heard of it from my mum… She came in in the morning with a cup tea and was like ‘have you heard this about Doctor Who?’”
Fouracres should be everyone’s first choice for the Doctor; he’s loved by fans who know him, and has the talent to win over those who don’t.
His humble, respectful presence in interviews also hints to him being a perfect show custodian, like the great Doctors before him.
Give him the keys to the TARDIS now!
