With the latest film Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to hit cinemas on July 31, would you care to learn more about his origins?

Spider-Man’s origins
The character of Spider-Man dates back all the way to June 5, 1962.
The mastermind behind his creation is legendary writer Stan Lee and talented illustrator Steve Ditko.
Spider-Man’s first appearance was in the comic book ‘Amazing Fantasy, Volume 15’ and has since been beloved worldwide.
The following year in March 1963, Spider-Man featured in his own comic book series titled ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’
In the past 60 years Spider-Man comics have generated around $1.1 billion in lifetime revenue and have sold roughly 387 million physical copies worldwide.
Fans fell in love with this web-swinging superhero.
Spidey backstory
According to Zavvi, a popular US comic seller, Spider-Man is the world’s favourite superhero – beating even the likes of Superman.
Many fans have praised the character for “his reliability, vulnerability and enduring resilience.”
If you are unaware of who he is, let this provide some context for you.
Spider-Man follows the story of Peter Parker, an orphan raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.
All seems well until he is bitten by a radioactive spider and gains supernatural powers.

Looking to the future
Despite Spider-Man having been around for over 60 years, this character is far from being retired.

The film stars Tom Holland reprising his role as the loveable superhero, along with Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned.
